Put the mixture in an airtight container and leave for about eight weeks, shaking it daily. The mixture is then ready to use. If you keep in mind the four basic ingredients – flowers for colour and scent; spices; aromatic leaves and a fixative to bind it all together and keep the smell trapped in, then you can’t go wrong when creating your own potpourri. It is a totally natural way to perfume your home and doesn’t have the synthetic smell of shop bought air fresheners.

ROCK SCENTED POTPOURRI
Things You'll Need:
- 1/2 cup of flour
- 1/2 cup of salt
- 1/4 tsp. of essential oil
- 2/3 cup of water
- Food coloring (optional)
- Cocoa powder
- Saucepan
- Bowl
- Cookie sheets
- Newspaper or paper towels
If you like the scent that a dish of potpourri adds to a room, but are not into the look of flower petals and pinecones, this might be more your style. You can create potpourri that looks like natural rocks and stones, or color the rocks to accent your decor.
Measure water into saucepan and place on stove over high heat. Bring to a boil.
Pour flour and salt into mixing bowl and mix well. Add several drops of essential oil, combining thoroughly. Add the boiling water to the flour mixture. Stir well to make a dough.
Add food coloring if desired to create the color you desire. If you would like a few different colors, separate the dough into two or three bowls and color accordingly.
Scoop a small handful of the dough out with your hands and roll into a rock shape. Place on a cookie sheet, newspaper or paper towel. Repeat with the remaining dough.
Allow rocks to dry for two to three days, until completely dry and hardened. Lightly dust with cocoa powder, if desired. The powder will add to the natural appearance, as well as give a chocolatey scent. When dry, set into a shallow bowl or dish and enjoy the aroma.
